Roman Forum

These are some of the buildings I identified from the Forum in Rome.

  1. Arch of the Fornix Fabianus
  2. Imperial arch dedicated to Augustus Caesar
  3. Temple of the Divine Julius (Caesar)
  4. Royal Regia - the former official state home of the old Roman kings
  5. Temple of Antoninus and Faustina
  6. Vesta Aedes - one of the the holiest temples in Rome where the Vestal Virgins tended the sacred fire
  7. Temple - Castor and Pollux (mythical twin brothers who helped the Roman army to victory and announced the victory at the Forum)
  8. Basilica Julia - Julia Caesar started this as a court of civil jurisdiction. Nothing remains but you can see the floor plan.
  9. Basilica Aemilia - oldest basilica at Forum, originally built in 179BC. This was built so businesses could have an indoor place during bad weather. It was destroyed when the Visigoths sacked Rome in 410AD.
  10. Temple of Vespasian - built by Titus in honor of his father Vespasian. Titus' brother Domitian dedicated it to both Titus and Vespasian.
  11. Temple of Concordia
  12. Tabularium - official records office
  13. Rostra Augustus - speaking platform
  14. Ficus Rominalis - a holy tree where the mythical Romulus and Remus were suckled by a she - wolf
  15. Curia Julia - the Senate house
This is what the Forum looks like now.

  1. Sebastian, I like your sketches. The real Forum looks like it's badly in need of repair. You guys are lucky to get a chance to see the real thing. Enjoy!
